Metabolic Wellness Profile

Maintaining optimal metabolic health is crucial for overall well-being, and the Metabolic Wellness Profile by Fluids IQ provides valuable insights into various metabolic functions.

This comprehensive test evaluates three critical biomarkers: Indican, Total Bile Acids (TBA), and 8-Hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), offering a detailed picture of your metabolic and digestive health.

What Does the Metabolic Wellness Profile Test?

Urinary Indican

Purpose: Urinary indican is an effective screening tool for assessing protein digestion, dysbiosis, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), intestinal mucosal permeability, and malabsorption states.

Mechanism: Also known as indoxyl sulfate, indican is a putrefaction product resulting from dysbiotic bacterial deconjugation of dietary tryptophan to indole in the small intestine. Elevated levels indicate issues with protein digestion and gut health.

Total Bile Acids (TBA)

Purpose: Bile acids play key roles in cholesterol elimination, fat absorption, regulation of energy expenditure, and glucose and lipid metabolism.

Mechanism: Synthesized in the liver and stored in the gallbladder, bile acids enter the intestinal lumen and are reabsorbed in the ileum. Elevated TBA indicates bile acids not cleared by the liver, suggesting liver dysfunction or damage, such as viral disease, cirrhosis, and drug-induced liver injury. Low TBA levels can indicate conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic malabsorption, or persistent diarrhea.

8-Hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG)

Purpose: The formation of 8-OHdG in DNA, and its urinary excretion, measure endogenous oxidative stress and damage in humans.

Mechanism: 8-OHdG is a biomarker of oxidative stress linked to various diseases, including diabetes, COPD, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and chronic hepatitis. It is also associated with high blood pressure, inflammatory conditions, and carcinogenesis.

What It Tells the Doctor and Patient

The results from the Metabolic Wellness Profile provide crucial information for both doctors and patients, including:

  • Digestive Health: Assessing protein digestion and gut microbiome health through urinary indican levels.

  • Liver Function: Evaluating liver health and function via TBA levels, identifying potential liver dysfunction or damage.

  • Oxidative Stress: Understanding the body’s oxidative stress levels and the risk of related diseases through 8-OHdG measurements.

How Do I Complete This Test?

The GI-MAP test is simple and non-invasive. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Sample Collection: You will receive a test kit that includes everything you need to collect a urine sample in the comfort of your home. Detailed instructions will guide you through the process.
